Fry Pan Beach

On hot summer days it can literally feel like the sun is frying your skin. The burning definitely intensifies in open spaces like the beach. Australian artist Andrew Hankin knows this all too well and used it as inspiration for his latest installation: a giant frying pan located on a beach in Sydney.

Called We're Frying Out Here, the installation is part of the Sculpture by the Sea series and features a giant skillet filled with sand. The tongue-in-cheek work of art is intended to remind beachgoers to wear sunscreen and avoid ''frying'' in the sun. It also serves as a fun playground, as children are allowed to climb the frying pan's handle.

Hankin, an artist and senior copywriter at Ogilvy, collaborated with sun protection brand Sunsense to create the giant frying pan. "It’s a great honor to have been selected into Sculpture by the Sea but an even better feeling to have been able to create a sculpture with an important message behind it," he said.
